Former University of Cincinnati football player Cortez Broughton was selected by the Los Angeles Chargers in the seventh round (No. 242) of the 2019 NFL Draft Saturday afternoon. It is the fourth-straight year a UC player has been taken in the NFL Draft.

A 6-foot-2, 290-pound defensive tackle, Broughton accumulated 51 tackles during his senior season in 2018. He added 17.5 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks.

Broughton was a captain for UC in 2018 and was named First-Team All-American Athletic Conference (AAC) after starting all 13 games. He finished his collegiate career with 155 tackles (27.5 for loss) and 10 sacks in 49 games.

The AAC had eleven players drafted, and at least one player taken in all seven rounds. Temple and Houston led the way with three selections each.
