UC Football signs Allen

Scenes from the Bearcats football win against ECU at Nippert Stadium on Nov. 23th, 2018.

After signing 14 during the early signing period Dec. 19, 2018, the University of Cincinnati football team added Jonathan Allen, a 6-foot-6, 310-pound offensive lineman from Dayton, Ohio’s Dunbar High School, on Wednesday's national signing day.

The 3-star recruit, according to 247Sports, chose UC after considering Ohio State, Penn State, Kentucky and Indiana. He is ranked as the 36th best recruit in Ohio and is a former high school teammate of UC running back Tavion Thomas.

“In December, we talked about being flexible with our remaining spots and focusing on our relationships in the 50 and 300-mile radius around campus and we did that,” Fickell said in a news release Wednesday. “We were able to add a big offensive lineman in Jonathan Allen from that radius. He’s a dynamic athlete who only played a couple of seasons, so his best football is ahead of him which is exciting for us. We are looking forward to getting this entire class here later this year to start developing and competing with our returning players.”

Nine of UC’s 15 signees come from Ohio.

With the addition of Allen, UC’s recruiting class is now ranked No. 74 nationally and fourth in the American Athletic Conference, according to 247Sports. The University of Central Florida, University of Memphis and Southern Methodist University each have recruiting classes ranked higher than the Bearcats.
