University of Cincinnati head football coach Luke Fickell will remain with the program after being heavily sought-after by power-five conference schools, including Michigan State.
According to USA Today, "multiple people with knowledge of the situation" were among the first to report that Fickell would not be leaving Cincinnati.
In each of Fickell's four seasons as head coach, the football program has steadily improved. UC has had back-to-back 11-win seasons and has found itself ranked within the Top-25 in the country, finishing No. 21 in 2019 after a Birmingham Bowl win over Boston College.
His overall record at UC is 26-13.
Michigan State's Mark Dantonio retired from coaching last week after leading the Spartans football program for twelve seasons. Michigan State Athletic Director Bill Beekman arrived in Cincinnati Saturday evening for to meet with Fickell Sunday.
It's not clear yet what Michigan State's next step will be, but Luke Fickell looks to be staying put for the 2020 season.
