In an effort to save the athletic department between $400,000 to $500,000 annually, University of Cincinnati Athletic Director Mike Thomas announced Tuesday, April 7, that the university will cut funding for the men’s track and field team, the men’s cross country team and the men’s swimming team beginning this fall.

UC will not offer any more scholarships for these sports but will fulfill its commitments to the current student athletes who are on scholarship.

Calling the decision “tough,” Thomas would not rule out possibly reinstating funding for these sports in the future.
