For the last several years students have spent many long, sleepless nights in the pastel-colored building which boasts no right angles.
Graduating seniors in the College of Design, Architecture, Art and Planning will bring final projects together for a week of showcasing hundreds of man hours building, designing and researching.
DAAP Works, the students’ last hurrah, showcases works from multiple disciplines drawing university community members, the Cincinnati community and often national representatives from design fields, said Vanessa Strickley, assistant director of student affairs at DAAP.
The event begins Tuesday, June 9, and runs through Friday, June 12, with an after party in the MainStreet breezeway near the Campus Recreation Center.
This the first year DAAP Works will feature projects from the transportation program, one of DAAP’s newest disciplines.
This year’s DAAP Works logo was designed by Michael Bierut, a 1980 graduate of DAAP’s graphic design prrogram. Bierut is one of DAAP’s most successful graduates, Strickley said.
Bierut teamed with Daniel Becker, a graduating design student, during Becker’s co-op at Pentagram, the design company in New York where Bierut is a partner.
“Anyone who comes to DAAP Works is going to see an amazing range of work,” Strickley said. “Our seniors have been working diligently on projects for a quarter, or even for some the entire year. It’s really the culmination of these students’ academic careers so whether or not your familiar with design, architecture, art or planning you’ll get a better understanding of those disciplines see amazing ideas and concepts and ideas.”
One of the last and most anticipated events of DAAP Works is the fashion show. Because the event usually sells out quickly, the event will also be Web cast, 8 p.m., Friday, June 12. Tickets for the show are $60.
The general DAAP Works exhibit is free and open to the public. For the DAAP works schedule, visit www.DAAPworks.com.
