Raymond Walters College takes a look back to America's indigenous peoples with a National American Indian Heritage Month celebration today.
The celebration will take place at the Muntz Hall lobby from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Past events included people showing up to view a movie, with a discussion afterwards and free pizza.
Everyone interested in learning more about the Native American culture is welcome to this event.
The first "American Indian Day" was declared by New York in 1916. It wasn't until 1990 that the month-long celebration of Native American Heritage was declared Aug. 3.
The purpose of National American Indian Heritage Month is to honor and recognize the original occupants of the United States.
