The University of Cincinnati will return a piece of history this month when it sends a rare German book back to Germany.

The book, titled Die Andachtige Pilgerfahrt, or "The Devout Pilgrimage," by Vincentius Briemle, was published in Munich, Germany. A World War II GI brought it to the United States. The book is a two volume account containing descriptions of travel to the Holy Land in the 1700s.

Fred Warren of Bellevue, Ky., will give the book to the UC German-Americana Collection at 4 p.m. Wednesday in the Blegan Library. Warren's father, the WWII GI, left the book to him in a family will.

After donating the book to UC, German professor Manfred Zimmermann will return the book to Germany over the summer, delivering it to the Weimar Library. The library recently lost its copy of the same book after a fire destroyed most of the building.
