The University of Cincinnati Alpine Race Team, along with Red Bull North America, is scheduled to be putting on a big air event for BMX and Mountain Bikers called "Ridin' Dirty" on Friday, May 23 from noon to 4 p.m. on Main Street.

UC third-year information systems student Chris Simonson heads the UC Alpine Racing team, which competes at several different Midwest resorts during the winter, and trains at Perfect North Slopes. During the off-season, the team is involved in other activities, including the "Ridin' Dirty" event.

The "Ridin' Dirty" event is set to involve two straight jumps of one 5-foot ramp followed by a steeper 5-foot-6-inch ramp.

"The ramps were custom built tonight with help from a few local riders, Red Bull and the UC Alpine Race Team," Simonson said.

On Friday morning two dump trucks will haul in dirt for the ramps. "Ridin' Dirty" is open to the public and free, but one stipulation is that helmets are mandatory, and they won't be provided. The students that come to check it out can look forward to some impressive jumps from the riders.

"You can expect some big tricks at this event," Simonson said. "We just finished making the jumps and they are even bigger than we expected."

The jumps will be open to the public and riders from all over Cincinnati will be attending the event and showing off their tricks.

"You can expect some huge airs and even some inverted tricks as well," Simonson said. "Riders from all across the city are coming to enjoy the huge features and feed off the energy of the crowds."

"Ridin' Dirty" gives UC students a rare opportunity to experience the sports of BMX and mountain biking.

"Events like this don't happen often at UC," Simonson said. "So be sure to come check it out, it should be great weather and a great time.
