Looking for a place to show off your skills at poker in a more competitive setting than a night out with the guys? The Catskeller, located on the bottom floor of Tangeman University Center, is set to hold a Texas Hold 'Em poker tournament on Friday, Nov. 2 at 7 p.m.
This is the third year that the tournament has been held. In the past, the tournament took place in the food court of TUC, but this year it is slated to be held in an atmosphere more appropriate for poker: the Catskeller lounge.
As always, admission is free and there are set to be prizes for the top-three finishers. In the past, some of the prizes given away to the winners were iPods, cameras, gift cards to local restaurants, UC apparel and free food from Catskeller. Anyone who has a UC ID is eligible to enter the competition.
The last poker tournament was held during Welcome Week and brought in about 100 people. To ensure a spot in the competition, stop by Catskeller early to sign up. The event starts right at 7 p.m. and last until about 10 p.m.
Not sure how to play Texas Hold 'Em poker? No worries.
"I definitely encourage players of all skill levels," Catskeller Manager Adam Bankovich said. "Even if you've never played poker before, the rules can be easily explained to you as you go along. It's a really laid-back atmosphere."
Gather up a group of friends and head out to Catskeller for a fun night of Texas Hold 'Em; you might even win something!
"This is a really fun - and not to mention free - event for anybody who just wants to have a good time," Bancovich said. So put on your best poker face and get ready for a challenge.
