Cincinnati-based group Bottom Line has been in and out of the local music scene since 2001, and after appearing on the Vans Warped Tour and the Pop on This Tour in 2006, they seemed to drop out of sight. However, the guys are still around and still playing.
Bottom Line is scheduled to appear on "The Genesis" on Saturday, May 17 from 6:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Bearcast Radio.
In the past few years, Bottom Line has gone through major changes, personally and professionally. After recording throughout 2005 and 2006 with Maverick Records and producer John Feldman, the band watched as a release date for its untitled album slipped away and Maverick went under. Disappointed yet determined, the band came home with a new outlook and a new drive for success.
After the split from Maverick in the fall of 2006, band members Benjamin James (vocals/guitar) and Cliff Revis (drums) parted ways with Daniel Kinzie (vocals/guitar) and Gregory Yock (bass). "I never thought we'd be one of 'those bands' … one of those 'same band' 'different lineup' [bands]," Yock said.
Over the last year and a half, Kinzie and Yock have spent much of their time writing. "We want this to be the best album we've ever had … in the long run, we all know that our time is better spent writing better songs," Kinzie said. Recently, the duo began the search for a new drummer.
After auditioning several hopefuls, they found University of Cincinnati first-year English literature student Aaron Roy. All of the members agree that the current lineup is the most "chilled" and most respectful they've had to date.
Roy, former drummer of Last-N-Line, has been playing for 10 years and brings a fresh perspective to the table. "Roy came in there and literally just blew us away," Kinzie said.
In his short time with the band, Kinzie and Yock agree Roy helps to make their songs better.
The band hopes to get into the studio in the next few months and start recording under bassist Yock's forthcoming label Fresh Music.
Described as a label dedicated to honest music, Bottom Line is confident that with Fresh Music producing the album, it won't lose anything the members feel is important.
With everything in the works for Bottom Line, it's a sure bet the boys are coming back in a big way. Having the label and a dedication to working collectively allows all three band members to have their input heard. "We play the roles but we don't wear the hats ... we don't wear name tags," Yock said.
Name tags or not, the members of Bottom Line are using experience to get where they want to be. So fans get ready; with a new sound and a new lineup, it's a sure bet you're going to be blown away by the new Bottom Line.
